Ukraine's defense ministry signed an agreement with Turkish drone magnate Baykar Makina to build a drone repair and maintenance service center in Ukraine, a ministry official said Monday 30/07/2023.


Ukraine seeks to increase domestic production of drones to build an “Army of Drones” in its fight against Russian troops that invaded the country in February 2022.


"The establishment of the service center will be a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and will help bring our victory closer," the ministry's state secretary Kostiantyn Vashchenko said in a statement.





Ukrainian manufacturers have sharply increased domestic production of drones. More than 10,000 drone operators have been trained with another 10,000 in training, said Mykhailo Fedorov, deputy prime minister in charge of the "Drone Army" last week.


Both Ukrainian and Russian forces have used a variety of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, for reconnaissance and strike purposes during the war.


Ukrainian media reported earlier this month, citing Ukraine's strategic industry minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, that Baykar had started construction of a plant to manufacture Ukraine's famous Bayraktar TB2 UAV.


The Bayraktar TB2, which has been used by Ukraine against the Russian invasion, along with conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Karabakh, is spearheading Türkiye's global defense export push.


The TB2 is especially popular in Ukraine, where it helps destroy Russian artillery systems and armored vehicles. It even became the subject of an expletive-strewn patriotic hit in Ukraine mocking Russian troops, with a chorus of “Bayraktar, Bayraktar.”

Not limited to producing tracked self-propelled howitzers (SPH) Firtina, Turkey, which achieved success in its defense industry, also developed and produced SPH wheeled tires in caliber 155 mm, which was labeled Yavuz 6×6. Launched at IDEF 2017 in Istanbul. Apart from complementing the arsenal of the Turkish Army, Yavuz is currently in the process of negotiating for acquisition by Malaysia and Brazil.

Yavuz is manufactured by a state-owned defense company – the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE). Like the SPH CAESAER 6×6 made in France which is operated by the Indonesian Army, Yavuz is designed to respond to the needs of the Turkish armed forces for a new type of howitzer that offers high mobility with the ability to deploy quickly.


MKE Yavuz is based on the German MAN 6×6 military truck chassis with a 155/52 mm howitzer mounted at the rear of the chassis. In fact, the howitzer used comes from the Panter 155 mm truck-mounted howitzer, which is also produced by MKE and is already in Turkish military operations, even the Panter has also been used by Pakistan.


The MKE Yavuz was developed based on the chassis and engine of a commercial MAN 6x6 truck converted for use for military applications, but the cab and layout were completely designed by MKE and Yol-Bak.

A double cab located aft of the MKE Yavuz 155mm 6x6 self-propelled howitzer can accommodate a crew of five, including driver, commander, gunner and two loaders. The crew cab is fully armored to provide protection against small arms fire and artillery projectile splinters.




MKE Yavuz is equipped with a semi-automatic loading system. In one operation, Yavuz can carry a total of 18 munitions stored in storage boxes located on each side of the truck chassis. The howitzer on the Yavuz can fire projectiles up to a maximum range of 40 km.

It only took 60 seconds for the Yavuz crew to fire the first shot, and in the hands of trained personnel, up to six shots were fired in one minute. MKE Yavuz combat weight is 20 tons.

With the MAN 6×6 truck platform, Yavuz can travel up to 60 km per hour and travel up to 600 km. (Glang Prime)

Tak sebatas memproduksi self propelled howitzer (SPH) tracked – roda rantai Firtina, Turki yang mencapai gemilang dalam industri pertahanannya, juga mengembangkan dan memproduksi SPH wheeled – roda ban di kaliber 155 mm, yang diberi label Yavuz 6×6. Diluncurkan pada ajang IDEF 2017 di Istanbul. Selain melengkapi arsenal Angkatan Darat Turki, Yavuz saat ini tengah dalam proses negosiasi untuk diakuisisi oleh Malaysia dan Brasil.

Yavuz diproduksi oleh perusahaan pertahanan milik pemerintah – Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE). Seperti halnya SPH CAESAER 6×6 buatan Perancis yang dioperasikan TNI AD, Yavuz dirancang guna menanggapi kebutuhan angkatan bersenjata Turki pada jenis howitzer baru yang menawarkan mobilitas tinggi dengan kemampuan penyebaran secara cepat.


MKE Yavuz didasarkan pada sasis truk militer MAN 6×6 buatan Jerman dengan howitzer kaliber 155/52 mm yang dipasang di bagian belakang sasis. Sejatinya, howitzer yang digunakan berasal dari truk-mount howitzer Panter 155 mm, yang juga diproduksi oleh MKE dan sudah dalam operasional militer Turki, bahkan Panter juga telah digunakan oleh Pakistan.


MKE Yavuz dikembangkan berdasarkan sasis dan mesin truk MAN 6×6 komersial yang dikonversi untuk digunakan untuk aplikasi militer, tetapi kabin dan tata letaknya sepenuhnya dirancang oleh MKE dan Yol-Bak.

Kabin ganda terletak di bagian depan howitzer self-propelled MKE Yavuz 155mm 6×6 yang mampu menampung awak yang terdiri dari lima orang, termasuk pengemudi, komandan, penembak dan dua loader. Kabin awak sepenuhnya berlapis baja untuk memberikan perlindungan terhadap tembakan senjata kecil dan serpihan proyektil artileri.

Hanya dibutuhkan waktu 60 detik untuk awak Yavuz melakukan tembakan pertama, dan di tangan personel yang terlatih, dalam satu menit dapat dilakukan sampai enam kali penembakan. Berat tempur MKE Yavuz adalah 20 ton.

Operating a fifth-generation fighter can be likened to a dream and a need. In fact, it's not enough for a country to just have a big budget to be able to buy stealth fighter jets like the F-35 Lightning II. Because it is full of sophisticated technology and is considered sensitive, there are sales restrictions that cannot be separated from political affairs. And when KAAN (formerly TF-X) was successfully launched by Turkey, it opened up opportunities for third world countries to later 'taste' the advantages of stealth fighter jets.

And regarding the development of KAAN produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), there are reports that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have joined Turkey's fifth-generation stealth fighter jet program.

On December 27 this year, it is planned that KAAN will fly for the first time with the support of artificial intelligence technology in it. This agreement outlines the joint development of various airworthy equipment, strengthens ties and encourages the exchange of technological know-how between the two countries.

The entry of Pakistan and Azerbaijan into the KAAN stealth aircraft project has opened up new possibilities for sharing expertise and resources. As part of the collaboration, several KAAN subsystems will be manufactured in Pakistan, leading to the establishment of a joint production line. This strategic move not only reduces the overall financial burden, but can also increase production, ensuring the timely completion of the aircraft.

The KAAN stealth fighter jet is expected to be a game-changer, with advanced stealth capabilities that will allow it to operate undetected in hostile airspace. Its AI amalgamation adds another dimension to its already impressive features, making it a formidable force in modern aerial warfare.




KAAN, originally planned to make its maiden flight with Turkish engines in 2028, with its first flight on 27 December 2023, will exceed expectations by reaching the milestone ahead of schedule. Development of KAAN began in 2010, although there were some setbacks and delays along the way. However, the development process rapidly accelerated in 2019, especially when Turkey was kicked out by the US from the F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet program.

With a wingspan of around 21 meters, the aircraft boasts impressive performance capabilities, being able to reach a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 thanks to its twin engines, each developing 29,000 pounds (13,000 kg) of thrust.

Recent KAAN photos show exhaust nozzles similar to those found on a different General Electric F110 model. SavunmaSanayiST notes that the aircraft moved independently during the most recent taxii test, indicating that the General Electric F110 engine was successfully integrated.

As a fifth-generation fighter, the KAAN was carefully developed by TAI with the primary aim of replacing Turkey's aging F-16 fleet, demonstrating Turkey's commitment to advancing its air defense capabilities. (Glang Prime)

Mengoperasikan pesawat tempur generasi kelima bisa diibaratkan antara idaman dan kebutuhan. Faktanya, suatu negara tidak cukup hanya punya anggaran besar untuk bisa membeli jet tempur stealth seperti F-35 Lightning II. Lantaran sarat teknologi canggih dan dinilai sensitif, maka ada pembatasan penjualan yang tak bisa dilepaskan dari urusan politik. Dan ketika KAAN (d/h TF-X) sukses diluncurkan oleh Turki, maka terbuka peluang bagi negara dunia ketiga untuk kelak ‘mencicipi’ keunggulan jet tempur stealth.

Dan terkait pengembangan KAAN yang diproduksi Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), ada kabar bahwa Pakistan dan Azerbaijan telah bergabung dalam program jet tempur stealth generasi kelima Turki.


Pada 27 Desember tahun ini, rencananya KAAN akan terbang perdana dengan dukungan teknologi kecerdasan buatan di dalamnya.Dikutip dari propakistani.pk, disebut bahwa program pengembangan KAAN mendapat dukungan signifikan dari Pakistan dan Azerbaijan, yang secara resmi telah bergabung dalam program tersebut, menandakan era baru kerja sama di sektor penerbangan.


Kolaborasi antara Pakistan dan Turki semakin diperkuat dengan penandatanganan kontrak antara Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra dan Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). Perjanjian ini menguraikan pengembangan bersama berbagai airworthy equipment, memperkuat ikatan dan mendorong pertukaran pengetahuan teknologi antara kedua negara.

Masuknya Pakistan dan Azerbaijan dalam proyek pesawat siluman KAAN telah membuka kemungkinan baru untuk berbagi keahlian dan sumber daya. Pengembangan KAAN dimulai pada tahun 2010, meskipun ada beberapa kemunduran dan penundaan di sepanjang jalan. Namun, proses pengembangan dengan cepat meningkat pada 2019, terutama ketika Turki didepak oleh AS dari program jet tempur stealth F-35 Lightning II.

The Turkish Air Force through the Ozgur program will carry out a major upgrade of its F-16 fighter jet fleet to the 'Viper' standard. What's interesting about the Ozgur program is that several important components on the fighter are supplied by domestic companies. And one component that has received great attention is the adoption of the Murad AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar produced by Aselsan.

Of course, the upgrade of the F-16 using non-US components requires approval from Washington, which for this permission was obtained by a difficult 'struggle' at the level of bilateral lobbying. However, the point that can be observed from the adoption of the Murad AESA radar is that Northrop Grumman has the potential to get a rival in the marketing of the AESA radar for the F-16 Block 72 Viper.





As is known, the AESA radar package for the F-16 Viper based on standard specifications refers to Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83. Northrop Grumman calls the AN/APG-83 the SABR (Scalable Agile Beam Radar) label, which is a radar that has greater bandwidth, speed, agility and offers pilots fifth-generation radar combat capabilities.

Quoting a source from savunmasanayist.com (2/8/2023), it was stated that the first flight test of the F-16 Block 30 with the Murad radar will begin in September 2023, where currently there are two Turkish Air Force F-16s that are in the process of system integration, including installation of the mission computer in the Ozgur program.

In terms of appearance and design, the Murad and AN/APG-83 SABR are relatively similar, because they were specifically designed to adapt the typical F-16 radome shape.





Aselsan designed the Murad AESA radar not only for the F-16, but also for the Akinci combat drone (UCAV) and the KAAN stealth fighter jet (formerly – TF-X). The Murad radar was built using the latest Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. This multifunctional radar is capable of carrying out air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea missions simultaneously and has the ability to serve electronic warfare (electronic warfare).

With GaN technology, the Murad radar has a higher power efficiency, which means it can produce more power output with lower power consumption. This makes it suitable for radar applications where high power requirements and better heat resistance are required. GaN technology enables Murad to achieve greater transmitter power, better heat resistance, and more accurate search and track performance in a variety of combat situations.

Other specifications of the Murad have not been released, such as the detection range of the radar. For comparison, the AN/APG-83 SABR has a detection range of 120 km, while target identification can be carried out at a distance of 84 km. Simultaneously, this radar can track more than 20 targets, including engaging in warfare in beyond visual range and maritime modes.

It is not yet known which one is superior, whether Murad or SABR. If Murad is able to match the performance of the AN/APG-83, it will be a big achievement for Aselsan. About export potential? Seeing the large market for upgrading the older F-16 series to the Viper standard, there is a great opportunity to market the Murad to countries using the F-16.

Angkatan Udara Turki lewat program Ozgur akan melakukan upgrade besar-besaran pada armada jet tempur F-16 ke standar ‘Viper’. Yang menarik dari program Ozgur adalah beberapa komponen penting pada pesawat tempur tersebut dipasok oleh perusahaan dalam negeri. Dan salah satu komponen yang mendapat perhatian besar adalah adopsi radar AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) Murad yang diproduksi oleh Aselsan.

Sudah barang tentu, upgrade atas F-16 dengan menggunakan komponen non-AS memerlukan persetujuan dari Washington, yang untuk izin ini didapatkan dengan ‘perjuangan’ yang tak mudah di tingkat lobi bilateral. Namun, poin yang bisa dicermati dari adopsi radar AESA Murad adalah Northrop Grumman berpotensi mendapatkan saingan dalam pemasaran radar AESA untuk F-16 Block 72 Viper.

Seperti diketahui, paket radar AESA untuk F-16 Viper berdasakan spesifikasi standar mengacu pada Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83. Northrop Grumman menyebut AN/APG-83 dengan label SABR (Scalable Agile Beam Radar), yaitu radar yang memikiki bandwidth, kecepatan, kelincahan yang lebih besar dan menawarkan pilot kemampuan tempur radar generasi kelima.


Mengutip sumber dari savunmasanayist.com (2/8/2023), disebutkan bahwa uji terbang perdana F-16 Block 30 dengan radar Murad akan dimulai pada bulan September 2023, di mana saat ini ada dua unit F-16 AU Turki yang tengah dalam proses integrasi sistem, termasuk instalasi komputer misi dalam program Ozgur.


Dari segi tampilan dan desain, antara Murad dan AN/APG-83 SABR relatif serupa, karena dirancang khusus menyesuaikan bentuk radome F-16 yang khas.



Aselsan merancang radar AESA Murad tidak hanya untuk F-16, melainkan juga untuk drone tempur (UCAV) Akinci dan jet tempur stealth KAAN (d/h – TF-X). Radar Murad dibangun menggunakan teknologi terbaru Gallium Nitride (GaN). Radar multifungsi ini mampu melakukan misi udara-ke-udara, udara-ke-darat, udara-ke-laut secara simultan dan memiliki kemampuan meladeni peperangan elektronik (electronic warfare).



Dengan teknologi GaN, maka radar Murad memiliki efisiensi daya yang lebih tinggi, yang berarti dapat menghasilkan lebih banyak daya output dengan konsumsi daya yang lebih rendah. Ini membuatnya cocok untuk aplikasi radar dengan kebutuhan daya tinggi dan ketahanan panas yang lebih baik. Teknologi GaN memungkinkan Murad untuk mencapai daya pemancar yang lebih besar, ketahanan panas yang lebih baik, serta kinerja pencarian dan pelacakan yang lebih akurat dalam situasi pertempuran yang beragam.



Spesifikasi lain dari Murad belum dirilis, seperti berapa jarak jangkau deteksi dari radar. Sebagai perbandingan, AN/APG-83 SABR punya jarak jangkau deteksi 120 km, sementara identifikasi sasaran dapat dilakukan di jarak 84 km. Dalam waktu simultan, radar ini dapat melacak lebih dari 20 sasaran, termasuk meladeni peperangan dalam moda beyond visual range dan maritime mode.


Belum diketahui mana yang lebih unggul, apakah Murad atau SABR. Bila Murad mampu menyamai kinerja AN/APG-83, itu sudah merupakan prestasi besar bagi Aselsan. Tentang potensi ekspor? Melihat besarnya pasar upgrade F-16 seri lawas ke standar Viper, maka ada peluang besar memasarkan Murad ke negara-negara pengguna F-16.


Namun kembali lagi, untuk urusan ekspor yang terkait dengan produk (pesawat) buatan AS, maka dipastikan semua fase harus mendapatkan ‘lampu hijau’ dari Washington. (Bayu Pamungkas)

ANKARA - Turkey is upgrading the capabilities of its F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet with a domestically made mission computer system codenamed MGB. This is a Turkish Air Force program to upgrade F-16 Block 30 fighter jets to the more advanced Block 70.
The MGB's mission computers serve to expand the capabilities of F-16 pilots through the latest avionics infrastructure. Turkish F-16s will receive a new console with multifunction color display. Turkey will also upgrade the "friend-foe" system.
A Turkish source said the domestically made "friends-enemy" system is equivalent to NATO's KY58 and KY100. Turkey refers to this system as IFF Mod 5/S which is like the NATO system, it provides encrypted communications and links.
The creation of the MGB mission computer is part of Ankara's plans to make the Turkish armed forces more independent, not dependent on foreign manufacturers and suppliers. “Turkey will receive its first F-16 upgrade this year,” said Professor Ismail Demir, President of the Defense Industry Agency (SSB) quoted from the Bulgarian Military website, Tuesday (10/1/2022).
The third important component that will help upgrade the Turkish F-16s is the replacement of the new radar. Turkey's obsolete F-16 Block 30 fighter jet radar will receive the MURAD AESA radar designed and manufactured by Turkish company Aselsan.




Turkey claims that the MURAD AESA radar has better detection and targeting than its US competitor, the APG-83 radar. Bosphorus media reported that a total of 79 F-16 Block 30 fighter aircraft of the Turkish Air Force will be modernized under Turkey's Ozgur programme.

The MGB mission computer was first introduced by the Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank before parliament in November 2022. Quoted from the Anadolu Agency (AA) website, the MGB mission computer is designed to be the "brain" of Turkey's 5th generation fighter aircraft.
The mission computer was designed by the Research Center for Advanced Technology Informatics and Information Security (BILGEM) of the Türkiye Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBITAK). Later this mission computer was delivered to the Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI).
This increase makes the capabilities of the Turkish F-16 fighter jets more sophisticated and extends their service life. Most importantly, Turkey is not completely dependent on mission computer systems made by other countries and can be applied to TAI's 5th generation fighter aircraft.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected Turkey's claim to sovereignty of the Greek islands at the start of an official visit to Athens,

Speaking to Greek newspaper Ta Nea ahead of an official meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Scholz said it was "unacceptable" for a NATO country to question the sovereignty of its fellow members.
He also criticized the "more or less veiled military threats" to Greece made repeatedly by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his senior officials in recent months.
Greece and Turkey, both members of the US-led North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance, have clashed for years over maritime borders and energy exploration rights in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean Seas.
In an interview with French outlet Le Point, also published Thursday, Mitsotakis said the language used in the "indisputably escalating rhetoric" in Turkey was "unprecedented".
While it acknowledges that Erdogan's aggressiveness could be linked to a difficult re-election campaign next year, Mitsotakis noted that Athens cannot ignore that these remarks confirm its aggressive and expansionist stance towards Greece.
"President Erdogan ... is now saying he can attack my country at night," he said.
Meanwhile, on his first visit to Greece as chancellor, Scholz urged the two countries to resolve their differences through dialogue and based on international law.
On the other hand, Erdogan has recently accused Greece of occupying the Aegean islands whose status was settled in treaties adopted after World War I.
In response, Athens accused Turkey of carrying out hundreds of illegal military strikes on the islands.
Last month, the United States said that Greece's sovereignty was not in doubt, after Ankara lodged a protest over the deployment of Greek armored vehicles on the islands of Lesbos and Samos.
