Boeing has delivered the first Apache AH-64E Version 6, or V6 helicopter featuring performance, sensor and software upgrades to the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF).
As part of the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) through the US Department of Defense, Boeing received a contract in 2019 to remake (rebuild) 28 Apache model AH-64D RNLAF into the AH-64E V6. Deliveries for the Apache E-model of the most modern variant to the country are targeted for completion by 2025.
“The Apache is the most advanced attack helicopter proven, and demand is growing worldwide,” said Kathleen Jolivette, vice president of Attack Helicopter Programs & Senior Mesa Site Executive at Boeing. “By upgrading from the D model to the Apache E model, the Royal Netherlands Air Force will see significant improvements in attack power, versatility and situational awareness over the next few decades.”
The Netherlands has operated the D-model Apache since 1998. Delivery of the remanufactured E-model Apache is the next step in a long-term partnership between Boeing and the country. The Apache continues to be an important element of European defence, and is currently operated by several European allies.
“It is an honor to receive the first ever reproduced Apache Echo. This updated attack helicopter is a major upgrade and provides the Royal Netherlands Air Force with more combat power and situational awareness. This first delivery is an important step in modernizing our entire Apache fleet,” said Vice Admiral Arie Jan de Waard, Director of the Defense Materials Organization.
The AH-64E V6 is the most modern configuration of the Apache attack helicopter. Since 1984, more than 2,600 Apaches have been delivered to the US Army and 17 international customers. Currently, there are more than 1,260 Apaches in operation worldwide with more than 665 representing the E-model.
