Several countries claim to want to buy Iranian-made drones
Wednesday, 26-10-2022.
Some 22 countries are claimed to have made formal requests to buy Iranian drones after Ukraine accused Russia of using Tehran's drones to attack the country.
The former commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as well as the main military aide to Iran's Supreme Leader, Major General Yahia Rahim Safavi, said some of the countries that were buying were splintered from the former Soviet Union.
"Today we have found that 22 countries in the world are interested in buying unmanned weapons from Iran," Safavi told Tasnim News quoted by Al Araby.
"Current candidate countries to buy Iranian drones include Armenia, Tajikistan, Serbia, Algeria, Venezuela and other countries," Safavi said, as quoted by Middle East Monitor.
Furthermore, Safavi explained that before the Islamic Revolution, Iran had imported 80 percent of its military needs from abroad. However, the Middle Eastern country is now producing its own military equipment.
So far there are no further details which other countries are buying Iranian drones. They also did not reveal what kind of drone the dozens of countries were asking for.
Iran is known to have many drones. Some of them are Shahed-136, Fotros, Saeqeh-2, and Mohajer-6.
The Shahed-136 drone, also known as the Kamikaze, was in the spotlight after Russia was said to have used the weapon to attack Ukraine.
However, Iran has denied sending the drone to Russia. The Shahed 136 drone carries a small warhead that explodes on impact
