Alerts! Putin Retreats on the Ukrainian Front, Russia Loses Again?

Russia ordered its input to withdraw in the war frontline city in Ukraine, Kherson, Wednesday local time. This is a new surprise by Russian President Vladimir Putin's army. The announcement of the troop withdrawal was made in person by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a televised meeting with the Russian commander in Ukraine, Sergei Surovikin. Russian troops, however, will defend themselves on the banks of the Dnipro River. "Start withdrawing troops," stressed Shoigu, quoted by AFP, Thursday (11/10/2022). The city of Kherson was actually the first city center captured by the Russians during the invasion. The city has become the only regional capital of Ukraine controlled by Moscow forces since the offensive began on February 24. But aggressive attacks by Ukrainian forces over the past weeks have seized villages in the Black Sea town. This Ukrainian siege is likely to make the Kremlin withdraw.

"They are just looking for a way out of a difficult situation," Natalia Gumeniuk, a spokeswoman for Ukraine's southern army command, said on the same website. "The fact that they deliberately announced that they were moving to the left bank doesn't surprise anyone. But we understand that we still have to fight," he added. Previously, Russia also carried out a massive evacuation of residents in the region. Martial law status was also announced by Putin. However, in a recent statement, Presidential Adviser to Ukraine Mykhaylo Podolyak said some Russian troops remained in the town. Kyiv itself is suspicious of Moscow's move. "We see no signs that the Russians are leaving Kherson without a fight," he said on Twitter. "Ukraine liberated territory based on intelligence data, not staged TV statements," he said again. Kherson is one of four Ukrainian regions that Russia declared it annexed in September. This was shortly after the pro-Russia-made referendum took place.

The announcement of the troop withdrawal in Kherson came shortly after the regional head appointed by Moscow, Kirill Stremousov, was pronounced dead in a car crash. There are at least 115,000 Russian troops stationed in the region.
