Russia has lost more than a quarter of its fleet of Kamov Ka-52 'Hokum B' attack helicopters during the eight-month war in Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed.
The Intelligence Update released by the Ministry of Defense on October 25 noted that there were at least 23 verified losses of the Ka-52 out of the 90 pre-war fleet of 90 helicopters.
“This represents more than 25% of the Russian Air Force fleet consisting of 90 Ka-52s, and almost half of the total loss of Russian helicopters in Ukraine,” the Defense Ministry said, adding, “Russian attack helicopters are likely to receive special attention from Ukraine. manportable air defense systems (MANPADS), while helicopters often operate as top cover which is less consistent than the fighter jets they would expect under Russian military doctrine.” (Gareth Jennings)
